YAMAGIWA is pleasure to announce the launch of a new collection, “O-LIGHT.” This will make its debut at 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 10–12 June 2026.

O-LIGHT is a table and floor lamp rooted in “magewappa,” a traditional woodcraft from Odate, Akita Prefecture, Japan. Crafted from Akita cedar, O-LIGHT highlights the natural character of the material and its distinctive grain. Magewappa, officially designated as a traditional craft of Japan, is shaped through techniques passed down over generations, where material and craftsmanship are closely intertwined. Through this heritage, the design brings a refined sense of warmth and presence into space.

Rather than existing solely as a source of illumination, O-LIGHT is conceived as an object that inhabits space both when lit and unlit. It does not assert itself, but instead quietly integrates into its surroundings, creating a soft and atmospheric interplay of light and shadow.

Over time, the cedar deepens in tone and character, allowing the piece to age gracefully with use. This gradual transformation is an essential aspect of the design, inviting a lasting relationship between the object, the space, and its user. With O-LIGHT, YAMAGIWA explores a form of lighting that balances material, light, and time—expressing a contemporary interpretation of Japanese craftsmanship.
